AIDS WALK WISCONSIN —
Shannon from the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin (ARCW) will be on-hand this Sunday from 5:30 to 7:30 to register folks for AIDS Walk on Sept. 19. Please join your teammates and league-mates and walk with us (I hear some people have decided to wear their MGVA shirts as they walk the course!). You can also register on our team at: http://www.aidswalkwis.org/site/TR/Events/General?team_id=10413&pg=team&fr_id=1100. You are not required to raise pledges, so sign up to walk with us and show your support!

MGVA POTLUCK — Sunday, Sept. 12 • 3 to 5 p.m.
Have you been testing out your recipes so you have a delectable dish to pass?
Don’t forget — this potluck event is also where we will count up everyone’s “Red Card” punches to determine the amount we will donate to AIDS Walk. Each punch = 25 cents to help fight AIDS!

DONATION JARS —
Our cup overfloweth! We have been getting steady contributions to the Swearing & Serving in the Net Jar. We sure are good at making lemonade out of lemons! If you have been writing out IOUs, don’t forget to bring your change this weekend — plus a little extra in case you need it for this weekend’s match!

REFS —
At this point in the season, we want to give a huge hand to those participants who are doing double duty by helping out refereeing games, too. It sometimes can be a thankless task, but it’s nice we have as many people who are willing to make calls and help our matches run smoothly. Players: Remember that most of our refs are new at this and are not expected to be perfect — just consistent. Refs: Keep doing what you’re doing — we all appreciate you!

AND FINALLY —
CONGRATULATIONS to Milwaukee Team 1 (consisting of Garett K., Joe W., Chris T., Jonathan C. and Kayla) who took third place in the Madison Pride Tournament last weekend! Way to represent!

March 18th, 2010

Come one Come all…. Hybrid Lounge!

Invite a friend to meet you at Hybrid this Sunday after play for our VolleyBar!  We’re trying to make this VolleyBar a HUGE success so please try your best to make it down!  We’ll be welcoming a new non-smoking Milwaukee bar as well as a new MGVA Sponsor!  If you can’t make it down on Sunday, stop by for a drink and thank the owners Nate and Bill for supporting MGVA!  Without our VolleyBar sponsors we would have to charge higher dues to cover the weekly gym rental!

Superbowl Alternative: Skills Clinic

February 1st, 2010

Sunday, February 7th might be a week off from play–but it’s not from volleyball!

Join league members and guests from Madison’s league for a skills night followed by pick up games and some going out to celebrate afterward.

Letter from the Director:

December 29th, 2009

I wanted to write a note hoping that your Holiday season is going well and explain what’s coming up for the rest of the season and beyond!

  • Brinton Center is closed this Sunday, so no play on January 3rd. Our next regularly scheduled games are January 10th, 2010.
  • Madison is having an open night on Sunday, January 3rd and they have invited us to come up.  It may cost $2 for Open Volleyball.  If you are interested in coming to Madison and would like to carpool, please email me so that I can get a list started.  It’s at Pooley’s (5441 High Crossing Boulevard, Madison, WI 53718) and is from 5pm-9pm.
  • February 7th is Super Bowl Sunday, we will not be having normal league play, but will instead have open gym where we will have pick-up games and we would like to do skills some clinics too.  If you are able teach a skills clinic on 2/7, please let me know so we can arrange it.
  • More info will be coming out about the end of the season tournament as we get closer, so keep an eye out for an email regarding it.
  • North American Gay Volleyball Association (NAGVA) has a tournament in St. Louis the last weekend in February.  This is completely separate from our league, our teams and our dues, but wanted to let everyone know in case they were interested in forming a team.  More info: http://www.nagva.org
  • Next season we will be having 2 divisions to try and provide options for our competitive players and those players that are looking to develop their skills and have fun at the same time

Thanks for a GREAT first half of our first season and I’m looking forward to an even better 2nd half!

See you on the courts!
